Not everyone was able to attend our most recent meeting, but we still had some fun seeing how these two games would fare for a potential tournament. For those of us who did get to play, what did you all think of Portal 2 and Naruto?
To me, the two are big contrasts of each other. In Portal 2, players are working as a team to complete their objective. If anyone dies, it is usually the fault of that player, not his buddy. There are those instances that somebody inadvertently kills the other player, but I'm sure those are just coincidental. As for Naruto Ninja Storm 3, players fight each other for the thrill of high speed battle and the glory of victory! It's an easy to pick up fighter with simple controls and a satisfying combat system.
I really enjoyed my time with both games. I do have a leaning towards Portal 2 as I would rather work WITH a companion rather than fight against them. You have no idea how many friendships can be broken over a simple fighting game.
Portal the Second: I am terrible at aiming with a controller, as it turns out. Also, there may have been some FPS issues, my computer runs Portal 2 much better than that. Probably because of the splitscreen thing. On top of this issue, the co-op mode can be learned just as easily as the single player mode. We already cancelled the planned Portal 2 tournament, so I don't feel that Portal 2 is a viable choice for a tournament.
ReplyDeleteNaruto Stealthy Clusterfuck 8: Irony of the Anime club doing a video game tournament with a game that is based around a large collection of video game icons and the Game Development Club doing a video game tournament with a game that is based around an anime aside, I don't see the appeal of the game. I am sure Cody or Blake (apologies if I got names wrong) could give more insight on the more specific details of the game, but to me the characters were the same. You have your very low damage unlimited ranged attack, the combo attack off of one button, your special that doesn't nuke the enemy (the one without the cinematic, like the clone that Itachi summons), and your special that does nuke the enemy (the triangle triangle circle one). The ranged attack is effectively useless as it will either not hit or it will just leave you open to get comboed on, and as the first person to get hit will inevitably be the one that takes damage, you are better off never using it. The only thing that has any significant variety is the special attack that doesn't do tons of damage, and usually if that misses, you're setting yourself up to get comboed, and it is relatively easy to dodge things. Team battles are just a clusterfuck of attacks. In addition, there are some situations where you can't see your character, the enemy's character, or whatever, due to the camera angles.
